#10 Technology

I feel that this blog has been a good encouragement to me as I am able to see what my classmates are going through. I guess misery loves company, ha. I strongly suggest that this sort of thing be continued in the future.

#8 Break is fast approaching...

The break is almost here and I feel good about it. I have been able to learn a lot and feel prepared to move on. Well I guess the finals will tell that tale. Most of the classes were very beneficial and I am trying to focus my energy into my finals. I know that the Lord will give me the ability to recall all that I need to for the finals. May God bless you guys too. Good Luck!

#7 "...dumb dumb"

The good Lord gave me a wonderful training exercise in grace. I was fortunate enough to choose a patient with AMS (look it up, I had to). He was very delightful the first time I met him and then he took a little nap. A went into the room to give him his meds ad he was sleeping but his wife told me he would be up soon. Shortly after I had left the room his wife came into the hall to let me know he was awake. I walked into the room with my dimples proudly poppin off and to my dismay he did not seem to like them very much. He was a bit agitated to say the least. I began to give him the meds and realized that he was getting ready to take a swing at me, fortunately my intuition caught on to his hand in a fist and him saying that he was going to "pop me one". His wife helped me with the meds and they all went down. The rest of the day was a battle. He called name threw things and was just nasty. Amongst all this I can say God blessed me with empathy for his frustration. Every time I looked at my patient I just had to smile, which usually resulted in more name calling but I got threw it and have come out on the other side stronger and blessed.

My first day shadowing the nurse I was assigned in clinical was great. She was busy but was able to explained everything she did. I felt like I was able to learn a ton, even if most this will need a great deal of practice. What was most interesting to me was the fact that I kept relating everything back to one of my first jobs, waiting tables. My nurse had 6 patients in rooms next to each other and she had here list of orders for each patient. She was organized and on time going from room to room assessing, administering and evaluating. It reminded me of when I would take and order, deliver the order and then check back to see if everything was ok. I know this simplifies it a bit but it helped me understand what was expected. I found that relating the new clinical site to something I was familiar with made coping with the change easier to handle. Did anyone else feel this way?

Time is going by fast. I feel like I am learning a ton and quickly. I am getting very comfortable in the long term care facility and I am thoroughly enjoying interacting with the residence. It has been a little bit of a challenge trying to get all the paper work finished as well as spend time with my resident. I am learning that the balance between patient interaction and documentation is a skill that I need to continually improve on. I can not say I feel totally comfortable with all we have been introduced to but I will rely on my status as a student for a little grace. I pray that when I am a nurse God will remind me of how I feel know when I have the opportunity to meet student nurses.

Post #3 - My First Day

I would be lying if I said I was not a little nervous. I did not know what to expect. Well I was surprised by how normal it all felt. I did not do much but walked around and observed different things that the various employees were doing in regards to patient care. It was nice to actually start doing rather than sitting and talking about doing. I was assigned a patient and that was exciting too. It was awesome to be able to help him eat a t lunch and other various tasks. I was feeling good and left even more excited to come back next week to work again. God showed me that, even though I might be a little apprehensive about the whole nursing thing, he will open my eyes to be able to enjoy things I never even imaged could be enjoyable. It was a great way to end the week. I cant wait to see what else is in store for me along my road.

For my first blog I will just give thanks to God for me being here. As we have looked over the history of nursing, and most recently The Great Depression, I am thankful to be in school with not to much of a worry about when my next meal will be. Sure the school costs a lot, gas prices are going up, and my stocks are slowing losing value but in the light of eternity, and the Depression, I know where I am going and how I will get there. I the mean time I just need to live my call. God is good and when I really focus on my gifts there is not muck time to think about the bad. To all you nursing students out there good luck and God bless!
